Visit by teachers from the Language Centre to the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Coimbra (ISEC), part of the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra in Portugal
On 12–16 May 2025, our English lecturers, Iwona Wróblewska and Liliana Krzeszewska-Sierakowska, took part in Staff Week organised by the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Coimbra (ISEC), part of the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra in Portugal.
The purpose of their visit was to establish cooperation with ISEC teaching staff and to exchange experiences and good practices with representatives of partner universities from various countries. The lecturers promoted the Erasmus+ programme offered at the Lodz University of Technology, encouraging students from the Portuguese university to study in Lodz as part of an exchange programme. During their stay, they also conducted a language workshop for Computer Science students, focused on developing practical communication skills at the B2+ level. Participation in the programme was also an opportunity for them to broaden their professional and cultural perspectives through direct contact with a different academic environment.
During their visit, the lecturers established valuable professional relationships not only with ISEC teaching staff but also with representatives of the University of Salamanca in Spain. As part of the programme, they organised an observation workshop during which they shared their working methods, teaching materials and approach to teaching English.
Teaching in an international environment proved to be a valuable experience, which contributed to the development of their flexibility and creativity in working with students from different cultural backgrounds. The lecturers emphasise that contact with the new academic environment was extremely inspiring and refreshing. They received an exceptionally warm welcome from the organisers and participants of Staff Week, and the successful cooperation resulted in an invitation to visit again as part of the Teaching Staff Assignment programme.
