Second foreign language for studies in English /IFE/

Coordinator of other languages: mgr Agnieszka Rogaczewska-Granatowska agnieszka.rogaczewska-granatowska@p.lodz.pl

During your studies at IFE, from the second semester onwards /in programmes 2020/ and for selected programmes 2025 from the third semester, you are required to learn a second foreign language for 150 hours /or 120 hrs/*. You can choose from the following languages: German, Spanish, Italian and French. Qualification for groups is based on your declaration and willingness to complete a mobility semester (SEM VI of Studies) at a foreign target university.

Enrolment for second language classes

Enrolment for a second language class takes place at the end of the first (or second) semester, so you have time to calmly consider which of the languages we offer you would like to learn from scratch (A2 groups) or continue learning (B1, B2 groups). In due course, you will receive an email from us with all the necessary information about our language offer and language levels, as well as instructions for enrolment. You will have a few days to enrol for a given language, after which the lists will be automatically closed. The number of places for each language course is limited. After the registration system closes, the lists are analysed and students are assigned to specific groups (there are more groups at some levels). Before the summer (or winter) semester begins, you will receive an email from your group leader with information about the time slot in which your group's classes will take place and the room number in the CJ building.

Important!
Your IFE plan will include fixed foreign language slots. These slots are reserved for foreign language classes. Please refrain from registering for Physical Education classes until you receive an email from the language instructor indicating your language class slot.

What will you learn?
Level A2

At level A2, we will introduce you to a given foreign language. Over three semesters, we will cover content that will enable you to communicate in basic situations during your stay in a country where that language is spoken. As you will be studying one semester remotely, we will focus on communication. Get ready for a large number of dynamic exercises: conversations in pairs, small group projects, presentations, and a large dose of knowledge about the culture of the language area. We want you to be able to cope in a given country and have simple, uncomplicated conversations about the present, the past and your plans, and to use these skills to further develop your competence in the language.

Level B1
At level B1, we will develop the basic language skills you already have. Over three semesters, we will cover content that will allow you to participate naturally in typical communication situations, with topics related to everyday life and professional situations. As you are completing one semester on the move, we focus on communication. Get ready for a large number of dynamic exercises: conversations in pairs and groups, joint projects, presentations and a large dose of knowledge about the culture of a given language area.
We want you to be able to cope in a given country and have a relaxed conversation about everyday life, studies and passions, and to use these skills to further develop your competence in the language.

Level B2

At level B2, we will develop the skills you already have in a given language, expanding them with more advanced vocabulary and topics. Over three semesters, we will cover the content in such a way that you will be able to communicate freely in professional contexts and those related to the university and its specialisations. As you are completing one semester on the move, we focus on communication. Prepare yourself for a large number of dynamic exercises: debates in pairs and groups, project work, presentations and a large dose of knowledge about the culture and civilisation of the given language area.

We want you to feel comfortable with the language during your mobile semester and to be able to fully participate in classes offered in a given foreign language, constantly improving your skills.
